Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, was established in the year 1966.It is one of the premier institutions in the country for postgraduate and research studies. The University spreads over an area of 745 acres. It has acquired a commanding prominence at both International and National level. The University Grants Commission (UGC), India has recognized Madurai Kamaraj University as a ‘University with Potential for Excellence’ making it the second institution of higher l earning in the state, to get this coveted status. The University is re-accredited with 'A' grade by NACC. The Madurai Kamaraj University has 18 schools comprising 72 Departments. Eight Schools have been recognized by UGC for support under DRS/DSA/CAS programmes. The University offers many need-based and job-oriented courses. New interdisciplinary courses such as, M.Sc. Electronics & Instrumentation are conducted. The University has strength of about 2000 students. The University has more than 92 colleges affiliated to it.
 
     
  University Science Instrumentation Centre

 
 
University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) was established in the year 1978 in Madurai Kamaraj University with the financial assistance from UGC, to provide various centralized instrumentation facilities to academic, research and industrial community in this region. UGC upgraded this Centre to Level-III, an advanced Instrumentation Centre, in the year 1990. The Centre perfectly adapts itself to the modern trends in the field, year after year. A two-year full-time M.Sc. programme in Electronics & Instrumentation and a part-time Ph.D. programme enlighten the teaching and research activities of the Centre. Textbooks written by a faculty of this Centre are popular and are prescribed as text by many universities in India for undergraduate/postgraduate courses in engineering and science disciplines. The books are published by Prentice-Hall of India and are (i) Microprocessors, PC Hardware and Interfacing, and (ii) PC-Basec Instrumentation: Concepts and Practice. The Centre is also engaged in many major research projects in collaboration with other departments and institutions. In addition to the teaching and research programmes, the Centre offers the following services:
